6 Can’t Miss Shops + Sips & Eats Guide To Bar Harbor, Maine

Vanessa| National Parks+ New England+ Road Trips

Check out a newer (2020) updated version of this post on my new blog: 8 Shops You Can’t Miss In Bar Harbor, Maine

I’ve been to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park many times in the 5 years I’ve called New England home. This past year I went 4 times, so at this point, I’ve come up with some of my favorite shops, as well as, sips & eat.

Keep in mind that many of these shops and eateries are only open seasonally as Bar Harbor pretty much closes up shop at the end of tourist season. BUT there are a few that are open year round.

Bark Harbor

150 Main Street #3, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Daily 10 am – 5 pm

We LOVE Bark Harbor. And by “we” I mean my dogs really love the treats from Bark Harbor. Their favorites are bacon, cheese, and pumpkin flavored treats.

In The Woods

160 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Daily 10 am – 9:30 pm

This is such a cool shop! There are so many beautiful hand-carved items in here. I haven’t bought anything yet, but I always love to browse. Someday I will buy something.

Sherman’s Books & Stationary

56 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Daily 9 am – 9 pm

I love this stop and always end up buying something here. I love the bookstore, but the other side is just as cute. It’s very well curated. Stop in here for books, gifts, or housewares. I love the windchimes and the Bar Harbor and Acadia specific signs.

The Acadia Country Store

128 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Sun – Thurs 9 am – 9 pm
Fri – Sat 9 am – 10 pm

This shop has everything you can think of. Need a blueberry candy bar, or some blueberry soap, or perhaps a blueberry soda (100% recommend) they’ve got you covered! Try the homemade fudge!

The Acadia Shops

85 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Daily 9:30 – 8 pm

This shop has a little something for everyone. The 1st floor features soaps, clothing, housewares, pottery, books, local food, and snacks. While the 2nd floor features Maine crafted gifts like rope mats, buoys (I bought one of these), art, photography, prints, cards, and kitchenware. In short, they’ve got something for everyone!

Native Arts Gallery

99 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

I love this place! I stop every time I’m in Bar Harbor. I’ve bought earrings and a necklace here in the past and love them. They offer sterling silver jewelry in Navajo, Zuni and Hopi designs and an assortment of handmade crafts. They are open from April to Mid-October.

Bar Harbor has so many options when it comes to ice cream! It’s hard to pick a favorite.

Best ice cream in town:

Jordon Pond Ice Cream and Fudge

45 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Mon – Thurs 11 am – 9 pm
Fri – Sat 11 am – 10 pm

Jordon Pond Ice Cream makes their own ice cream and you can tell. Service is quick and friendly, and the flavors are really on point. Try the blueberry, I mean, it’s Maine you’ve gotta try the blueberry!

Best ice cream:

Udder Heaven Ice Cream Retreat

369, ME-3, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Currently closed for the season.

Udder Heaven was close to my hotel on my last trip to Acadia/Bar Harbor. I actually went there for “dinner” the night that I arrived. Yep, ice cream for dinner! Why not? They have sundaes, crepes, pastries, milkshakes, sorbet and of course, amazing ice cream. The service is friendly and quick, and the prices aren’t bad either.

Best Sorbet:

Ben and Bill’s Lobster Emporium

66 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Mon – Thurs 9 am – 5:30 pm
Fri – Sat 9 am – 7:30 pm
Sun 11 am – 5:30 pm

Not only does Ben and Bills have excellent mango sorbet, but they also offer lobster ice cream. Yep, you read that correctly, lobster ice cream. And yes, everyone I’ve ever heard read the sign makes the same face that you made when you read LOBSTER ice cream. Haha

Favorite Lobster Roll:

Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound

465 Seawall Road, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679
11 am – 8:30 pm

This is by far my favorite lobster roll in Maine and the best one I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot of lobster rolls). It was explained to me that there was a recent study done that found that lobsters do feel pain. So when they are stressed before they die the meat will end up being chewy. Charlotte’s has figured out a way to humanely turn their lobsters into lobster rolls and you can tell a HUGE difference. You can get these rolls 2 ways; I highly suggest you try it with butter!

Favorite Coffee/Quick Breakfast:
Coffee Hound Coffee Bar

27 Main Street B, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Daily 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

I stop here on every single visit to Acadia at least once, but if I can swing it, I stop every single morning. I can recommend the Nutella crepe and the egg and cheese sandwich. I love the maple, but the chai tea latte is excellent too. Take your crepe and ice coffee to Agamont Park and enjoy that gorgeous harbor view.

Atlantic Brewing Company –

15 Knox Road, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
They offer a great selection of beer and their seasonal offerings sound amazing! I love a good blueberry ale and can’t wait to try it!!

Jordon Pond House –

It’s closed seasonally and reopens in May 2020. I’ve always heard how amazing their afternoon tea and popovers are. Plus, during the summer months, it’s dog friendly if you sit outside.

Beal’s Lobster Pound

– 182 Clark Point Rd, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679
9 am – 4 pm daily
I’ve always wanted to stop here! I’ve never had time, or I’ve always remembered it after I’ve already eaten. They’ve got 5 different lobster rolls on their menu including a spicy buffalo, intriguing.

And don’t forget to take in a few sunrises and sunsets while you are at Acadia! I wrote an entire post on sunrise at Acadia here.

I’m a history nerd who loves nature, photography and her dogs. I travel with 2 of my 4 dogs, Thor the GSD and Loki the husky. I have an obsession with visiting National Parks and wolves. I love the UK and visit as often as I can. The boys and I are currently focused on traveling in North America and I take them with me whenever possible.

Welcome and stick around for a while!
