Jack The Ripper Tour in London

Vanessa| Abroad+ Nerd Alert+ Nerdy Adventures+ Places

It’s 1888 in Victorian England, the East End of London, the Whitechapel District to be exact, and seemingly out of nowhere 5 women are murdered. Their bodies were found mutilated and the culprit behind these murders is at large. Strange, to say the least. This serial killer is better known as Jack the Ripper and these mysterious murders have, to this day, remained unsolved. Interestingly, Jack the Ripper is still one of the world’s most famous criminals. Check back on Thursday for a Did You Know Thursday on Jack the Ripper.

The first time I went to England I didn’t have a plan at all but I knew I wanted to see as much as I possibly could. I saw a good bit and even ended up in Wales for a few days. I spent the last two days of my trip in London and saw a brochure at my hotel for the Jack the Ripper tour. I’ve always had a strange fascination with the Jack the Ripper mystery. So, of course, I had to do the tour. It may seem a bit hokey and touristy but it was actually a lot of fun and very informative.

We decided to take the Premium Tours Jack the Ripper and Haunted London tour listed here. The tour took approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes or it was supposed to but we got stuck in traffic and it ended up taking a bit longer. The website suggests that this tour is not for children under 12 because of some of the gory details surrounding the Jack the Ripper murders. There is also a bit of walking involved.

I liked that we got a good bit of information on the tour. We also got to see the old streets in London that I never would have found myself. It was very cool!

We really enjoyed the tour and would recommend it if you are looking for something fun to do for a night in London. Here are some of the highlights…

We started here with Sir William Wallace. If you don’t know who he is then we can’t be friends. Just kidding! But it was really funny someone yelled “freedom!” out their car window when driving past! haha
One of the oldest buildings in London.
The only statue of Henry VIII in London. Funny enough it’s on a hospital building. In case you didn’t know, I love Tudor history!
A building from 1886 that was part of the Jack the Ripper’s London.
This street looks remarkably similar to what it would have looked like in 1888.
Street names are the same now as they were then! How cool?
Just for laughs! Capitalizing on location. haha

I’m a history nerd who loves nature, photography and her dogs. I travel with 2 of my 4 dogs, Thor the GSD and Loki the husky. I have an obsession with visiting National Parks and wolves. I love the UK and visit as often as I can. The boys and I are currently focused on traveling in North America and I take them with me whenever possible.

Welcome and stick around for a while!
